Absolutely. But they could be a bugger to set more elevated.
And I recall the motor was connected via a disc manufactured of something like compressed fabric.

It was a substantial wooden box with PO-type lever keys on it, and substantial knobs and buttons, and a meter at the top.
As I remember, Carpenter relays never needed much adjustment as they were extremely precise (and expensive).
