Batteries go flat when you draw current from them (in one direction). But they are charged by causing current to flow in the opposite direction.
So why not connect the load the other direction round so that the current flows in the "recharge" direction? Then the batteries would charge themselves as they are utilised, and would never go flat.

Why has no one else ever thought of this brilliant :brightidea: idea?

You cannot connect batteries the wrong direction round or they will blow more elevated. :duh:
